“BLANTON DUNCAN, PART 2: Confederate Banknote Printer” (20 minutes) Seeking a photograph of Blanton Duncan for my lecture on ‘Francis Marion’, I stumbled into stories of an amazing life that was both exciting and sad. As a young man, Duncan raised a troop of soldiers for the Civil War — and then was relieved of command by his men. At the end of his life, he was suing his only surviving daughter for items she inherited from her mother. Duncan’s personality deficiencies may even have been responsible for losing the printing contract for Confederate currency.
