Numismatic stories and slide presentations

“WILLIAM MEREDITH'S MISSING MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR DOUBLE EAGLE?” (14 minutes) Treasury Secretary William Meredith is known to the vast majority of numismatists through his scowling vignette on Fractional Currency. His life story is quite interesting in itself, and must be combined with that of his banker father to understand why so many catalog descriptions incorrectly conflate the two! The Merediths had an unparalleled record of public service. However, the best mystery in numismatics -- unknown to many -- involves the 1849 $20 sold through his estate. That would be a find to quicken the blood!
